What we collect, and why.
Beta Cell Foundation collects consumer health data only when you give it to us, and uses it only to provide the service you asked for:
- Education Hub (learn.betacellfoundation.org): the reflections, goals and notes you write in our diabetes courses, which can describe how you manage your diabetes, and the courses you take. We use them to save your work and show it back to you.
- Type One Run Member Map (map.betacellfoundation.org): your email and city, which together identify you as part of a type 1 diabetes community. We use them to count you on the map and to let BCF’s map administrators and your area’s chapter leader invite you to local runs.
- T1Ds in the Wild trip lottery (wild.betacellfoundation.org): what you hope to get out of a trip and what you want to feel more confident about, which can concern your diabetes. We use them to choose and prepare trip groups.
- Messages to us: anything about your health you choose to tell us. We use it to answer you.
Sources. All of it comes directly from you. The Beta Cell Lab Notes app keeps your health data on your device and sends us none of it.
Who it’s shared with.
- Your Type One Run chapter leader: a member BCF has appointed to organize local runs, who can see the email and city of map members within 80 km (50 miles).
- Service providers that store it for us and use it for nothing else: Supabase (the Education Hub and Member Map databases), Netlify (lottery entries and messages), and Google (the spreadsheet that holds lottery entries).
We have no affiliates, and we never sell consumer health data.
Your rights, and how to use them.
You can ask us to confirm whether we hold your consumer health data, to give you a copy along with a list of everyone we’ve shared it with, to delete it, or to stop using it by withdrawing your consent. Email info@betacellfoundation.org with “Health data request” in the subject. You can also delete your Education Hub account from its My Progress page, or your Member Map account from the map. We’ll confirm the request comes from you, usually by replying to the email address we have, and respond within 45 days.
Appeals. If we turn your request down, we’ll explain why. Reply with “appeal” and we’ll answer within 45 days. If we deny the appeal, you can complain to your state attorney general: in Washington, at atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.
Our full Privacy Policy covers everything else we collect.
